BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrive Lima
Arrive in Lima at any time.

Day 2 Pisco

Explore Lima on your own this morning before catching a bus to Pisco, named for the typical Peruvian liquor. Spend a night on the town sampling some Peruvian food and try a Pisco Sour.

Day 3-4 Nazca

Visit the nearby Ballestas Islands to view the area’s sea lion colonies, penguins and abundant bird life. From Pisco, catch a bus to Nazca, stopping en route to check out the sand dunes of Huacachina, with an option to go sandboarding. Take an optional flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines, then visit a fascinating Pre-Inca cemetery in the Nazca desert with 1500 year-old mummies, bones and pottery. Finally, catch the night bus to Arequipa.

Day 5 Arequipa

Peru's second largest city has a delightful colonial past. At 2325m (7626 ft) above sea level, Arequipa is surrounded by the Andes mountains and lies in the shadow of El Misti Volcano. Optional visit to the peaceful Santa Catalina Monastery.

Day 6-7 Colca Canyon

Travel to nearby Chivay, where hot thermal baths and Peruvian music await. Two nights near Colca Canyon allows time to acclimatize and take short hikes around one of the deepest canyons in the world. Spot a soaring Condor or two in the majestic Andes mountains.

Day 8-10 Puno / Lake Titicaca (L,D,B)

Travel from Colca Canyon through the Andes to the town of Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Take a boat trip to visit the Uros and Taquile islands, then immerse yourself in Peruvian rural life with a homestay in a small village before returning to Puno on Day 10.

Day 11 Cuzco

Enjoy spectacular views of the countryside on this full day of travel from Puno to Cuzco through the high Altiplano region.

Day 12-13 Cuzco

With a friendly, colonial atmosphere, Cuzco offers nearby Inca ruins, cobblestone streets, museums, markets and churches.

Day 14-16 Machu Picchu / Sacred Valley / Cuzco

Travel to the ruins of Ollantaytambo and Pisac on a full day's tour to the Sacred Valley. Visit the local market in Pisac and spend the night in picturesque Ollantaytambo. Ride the train to Aguas Calientes and enjoy this bustling town at the foot of Machu Picchu. Rise early on Day 16 to avoid the afternoon crowds and enjoy the morning light as we explore the ruins with a local guide. Return to Cuzco in the afternoon.

Day 17 Cuzco

Explore Cuzco or various optional excursions on this free day, including mountain biking, rafting and horseback riding.

Day 18-20 Amazon Jungle (2B,2L,2D)

Fly from high in the Andes to Puerto Maldonado, deep in the lowlands of the Amazon jungle. Travel by motorized canoe to our lodge in the Tambopata Rainforest Area, which holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one area. Explore the jungle with expert local guides. Fly back to Lima for one final night in the City of Kings.
