Hands-on volunteer project, Antigua, Panajachel, Flores, visit to the Mayan ruins of Tikal.
Experience the real Guatemala on a journey of cultural immersion. Travel to a remote village in the eastern highlands and work alongside the community to help improve basic living conditions for local families. Spend the rest of your time strolling colonial Antigua, relaxing on the shores of Lake Atitlan and exploring the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal.

BRIEF ITINERARY

Day 1 Arrive Antigua: Arrive in Antigua at any time.

Day 2-6 Clean Water Volunteer Project (4B,5L,5D): Travel to the small friendly town of Jalapa and work alongside members of the community and international volunteers to participate in a clean drinking water project. Learn a little more about the local way of life in this Guatemalan community while you continue to help out. Possible activities include school construction, painting, teaching English and participating in village life.

Day 7-8 Panajachel (B): Thank you for your hard work, now it's time to relax. Continue travelling westward to the town of Panajachel, on the shores of the breathtaking Lake Atitlán. Optional activities include a lake tour to some villages surrounding this spectacular lake or a visit to the world famous Chichicastenango market.

Day 9-10 Flores/ Tikal: Fly to the charming and historic island town of Flores, found on Lake Petén Itzá. Explore the mystical Mayan ruins of Tikal, an ancient city that flourished over 2,000 yrs ago with pyramids towering above the thick jungle canopy.

Day 11-12 Antigua: Fly back south to the colonial town of Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Optional activities include climbing a nearby volcano, mountain bike through the countryside or simply shopping for unique Guatemalan souvenirs. A farewell dinner concludes the journey.

Volunteer style tours are designed as a way to give back to the people and places we visit on our adventures. Experience true cultural immersion by working alongside local people to improve basic living conditions through hands-on volunteer projects. Trips are balanced with both volunteer activities and plenty time to relax and explore. After the volunteer portion of each tour, we visit some of the country’s highlights.
Transportation - Anything that moves. Bus, train, plane, canoe, kayak, bike, ferry, rickshaw and good old foot power.
Accommodation - Locally owned guesthouses, homestays, camping. Some rustic and multishare accommodation.
Group and Staff - Max 12 travellers. G.A.P and local leaders.
Meals - Meals included on volunteer portion of tour. Plenty of time to explore your own tastes.
